Ground yourself
I’ve been playing around with the Body Code lately (I’m not quite ready to do the training but I am definitely thinking about it. It’s FASCINATING!) and something that is regularly coming up is a magnetic field deficiency. Sounds weird I know but when you think about it, it actually makes sense. When you look at humans on a subatomic and chemical level, we made up of energy. Sometimes that energy has a positive and a negative charge depending on whether the atom has lost or gained electrons, or an unequal sharing of electrons. Water is known to be polar, having a positive area and a negative area of the molecule, and so can respond to magnets. Since we are around 60% water and have other ions in us, we would also respond to magnets.
The earth provides a natural magnetic field, and connection with the earth can help provide our need for magnetic balance. Another term for getting connected with the earth is grounding. Grounding is a practice that involves connecting with the Earth's natural electrical charge by walking barefoot on the ground or using grounding equipment like conductive mats, sheets, or patches. The concept is based on the idea that the Earth carries a negative electrical charge, and when you make direct contact with it, you can balance the electrical charge in your body, which is often more positively charged due to exposure to modern technology, pollutants, and stress.
Often in life, especially in winter, we wear shoes which insulate us from the grounding ability of the earth. We sleep in beds that prevent our connection, driving in cars that are insulated from the earth. Life is becoming more and more disconnected from the earth, and especially in winter! It is no wonder our body could see this as a deficiency.
I’ve seen a fascinating clip previously about the benefits of grounding and it was shared again with me receilty, it’s worth checking out if you’re wanting more information or feeling skeptical. Here are some benefits associated with grounding:
Reduced Inflammation: Grounding has been suggested to have anti-inflammatory effects, potentially helping to alleviate chronic pain and improve overall health.
Improved Sleep: Many people report better sleep quality and reduced insomnia after grounding. It may help regulate the body's circadian rhythms and promote restful sleep.
Enhanced Energy and Well-being: Grounding is believed to boost energy levels, reduce stress, and enhance overall feelings of well-being.
Stress Reduction: Grounding has been shown to lower cortisol levels, the hormone associated with stress, thus promoting relaxation and reducing anxiety.
Improved Immune Function: Some research suggests that grounding might have positive effects on the immune system, helping the body's natural defenses function more effectively.
Electrostatic Shielding: Grounding can protect against electromagnetic fields (EMFs) by providing a path for the excess electrical charge to dissipate into the Earth.
Improved Blood Flow and Circulation: There is some evidence to suggest that grounding can improve blood circulation and support cardiovascular health.
The first time a magnetic field deficiency came up for me when doing a body code session, I took Benny to the beach the following day. I’m grateful it was a sunny day and we both had so much fun connecting to the ground, playing in the sand and running in and out of the water. I can honestly say I felt so much better afterwards mentally and emotionally. Some people might say it was just because of a relaxed day, I don’t know, but either way it was good. Maybe some of this explains why getting into the garden can feel so nourishing to the soul, why I love summer and going barefoot regularly so much. I don’t know, but what I do know, is it doesn’t do any harm, and the potential benefits are huge.
Here are some pictures from our last two beach outings. As you can probably tell, one day was much warmer than the other!
What can you do to get grounded? To get connected with the earth?
